Site problems 26-4-2015
« on: April 26, 2015, 07:53:21 PM »
Hi All,

Due to an upgrade failing during what should have been routine maintenance there was a glitch which rendered the DB corrupt.

Backups are done weekly, but for some reason these were also corrupt.

I have had to restore the DB from the Dec 6th 2014.

This means that everything since that date including and not limited to posts / new members has been lost.

 Apologies for any inconvenience.

 Regards,
 The UK Dragonflies Team.
Jerry

Sorry to hear that, Jerry.

It's the number 1 thing never checked in IT departments - is the backup restorable !  Happened quite a few times to the teams I worked in over the years.

The good thing is that nothing here, though interesting, is important :-)

I usually keep 3 - 4 months of backups and had to restore from one very close to the end of the cycle.
At the moment I do not know why or how the backups were corrupted but I'll be restoring each one from now on to a dummy site.

I feel for you Jerry, what a bummer.

We'll have to get a Goring thread going again!

Oh what a shame for you Jerry, causing you all that extra work.

We all appreciate how you keep the website running  :handclap

What an embuggerance, as Terry Pratchett might have said, but a relief that you found an uncorrupted backup. When you told me what happened I was tempted to post "the first odo of the year", but figured Paul Richie and others might not see the funny side.
Glad you found a workaround for future backups.
