Low numbers of dragons as we walked into Westhay yesterday, though hundreds of damsels as usual. One nice surprise though was the large number of emperors on the Mire (aka the Raised Bog), as well as immature black-tailed skimmers and a small number of chasers.

Highlight was undoubtedly seeing a four-spot taken by an emperor:



Also I happened to get very similar shots of a male azure and a male variable which I've used to make up a side-by-side for comparison. If you go to https://www.flickr.com/photos/stevebalcombe/34279647433/ (in a computer browser, not a tablet) there are annotations to point out the differences. I didn't plan these shots - if I was to do it again I'd go for a slightly higher perspective, i.e. a more dorsal view, but they happen to work ok.
